Gene Hutter Bio

Gene Hutter was born and raised in Phoenixville, PA, which was once a small steel town 20 miles west of Philadelphia. Following high school, he worked in offices doing accounting. He eventually attended Cabrini College in Radnor, PA, and earned a BA in Religious Studies and Journalism. Following a stint of teaching high school for a few years, he decided to enter seminary and pursue ordination to the priesthood. Gene attended Ss. Cyril and Methodius Byzantine Catholic Seminary in Pittsburgh, PA, and was ordained a priest in 1988. After 15 years as a parish priest, Gene left the priesthood. Pursuing to understand God’s call, he and his husband discovered SunCoast Cathedral in Venice, FL. Discerning God’s call Gene decided to pursue ordination in MCC.
Along with his internship, Gene is currently pursuing a Certificate in Gender, Sexuality and the Bible through Pacific School of Religion.

Gene and his husband Bill Burckhardt live in Venice; and, have been together for 17 years. Please pray for Gene as he seeks to answer God’s call.
