2012 Women’s Conference

Over 80 women in leadership from around North America recently gathered on our campus for a powerful weekend.

Keynote Speakers:

Rev. Dr. Elder Nancy Wilson, Moderator, Metropolitan Community Church and
Bishop Yvette Flunder, Presiding Bishop The Fellowship

Rev. Dr. Elder Nancy Wilson and Bishop Yvette Flunder will explore developing trusting relationships and lead participants in modeling trust. This conference will empower all women in leadership positions and is designed for both clergy and lay leaders.

The Holy Trust conference is open to all women, transwomen and those who identify themselves as women who are interested in improving their leadership skills and connecting with others in the common pursuit for social justice.

Rev. Dr. Elder Nancy Wilson

Rev. Wilson serves as the Moderator of Metropolitan Community Churches worldwide. She was appointed by President Obama to serve on the President’s Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships. Additionally, her numerous activities and appointments include serving as an Associate Minister with The Fellowship.

Rev. Wilson completed her Doctorate of Ministry at the Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge, MA. Her dissertation, “Trust is a Queer Thing” serves as the inspiration for our 2012 women’s conference.

Her publications include: Our Tribe: Queer Folks, God, Jesus and the Bible, Alamo Press; with Fr. Malcolm Boyd, Amazing Grace; her prayers and poems are included in Race and Prayer, Morehouse Press. She is a popular preacher and speaker and is the recipient of numerous awards including being the first recipient of the Presbyterian Church’s prestigious Lazarus Award for advancing spirituality in the gay and lesbian community.

Bishop Yvette Flunder

In 1991 Bishop Flunder founded the City of Refuge United Church of Christ in San Francisco for the purpose of uniting gospel and social ministries. City of Refuge is a thriving inner city ministry celebrating the inclusive love of Jesus Christ. In 2003 Bishop Flunder was consecrated as Presiding Bishop of The Fellowship, a multi-denominational fellowship of 110 primarily African American Christian leaders and laity representing 56 churches and faith-based organizations from the US, Mexico and Africa.

Bishop Flunder is a third generation preacher who is an ordained Minister of the United Church of Christ. She received her Doctor of Ministry degree from San Francisco Theological Seminary in San Anselmo, CA.

She is the author of Where the Edge Gathers: A Theology and Homiletic of Radical Inclusion, Pilgrim Press. A popular preacher and speaker she has also served as a lecturer and Adjunct Professor at numerous seminaries.
