Hi Folks,

Just a note to bring you up to date on our process for identifying and approving our Transitional Pastor. That is the term we have agreed with Rev. Sutherland to use.

The Board met by Skype with Rev. Sutherland on Tuesday, May 30. He presented his suggestion for a Transitional Pastor and we discussed the individual’s credentials, experience and logistics. The individual appears to meet our needs and even our hopes for experience, style, and character.

I have talked with the individual on the phone to assure that the interest and availability were there and set up a time for the Board to conduct an interview. We will do that this Sunday, June 4 in the late afternoon. Unfortunately, we were not able to complete the interview before our Church service that morning, but we were unable to secure the participation of all Board members before Sunday afternoon.

After the interview, assuming all goes well, we will invite the individual to preach at our 10:00 A.M. service on June 11. We will also announce to the congregation through all available electronic means the identity of the individual and their credentials. We will have them available in print for the congregation on June 11 at the service.

After service on June 11, we will have a “Meet and Greet” time during hospitality for congregants to greet and engage the individual in brief conversation. The Board will be available to listen to your comments, so be sure to share them. After that, the Board will convene to decide whether to invite the individual to join us as our Transitional Pastor.

The arrangement that is planned for the Transitional Pastor is a 9 to 12-month contract during which the individual who serves as Transitional Pastor will work with us to prepare for and conduct a search for a new Senior Pastor. The Transitional Pastor may, if they decide to do so, apply through the regular channel for the position of Senior Pastor.

We will keep you informed at each step. If you have questions, please feel free to ask them, and I will do my best to answer. There is a place at the end of this Blog to put your questions and comments.

Peace and patience,

Mary Lee

Mary Lee, this was important information to share with the congregation. Thank you for making a long process understandable.
